Riaño

Riaño am a municipality of the province of lion (Spain) put to the noreste of the same, to the feet of the Cantabrian chain of mountains, to 1.148 m of altitude. It finds to 91 km of the provincial capital and counts with a population of 539 inhabiting (INE 2005), acquaintances for the gentile of |riañeses| , with an extension of 85.08 km². Density: 6,33 hab./km2.The current people is comparatively recently. The original population, the Riaño ancients or old Riaño, was drowned in the decade of 1980 for the construction of a dam.After several attempt to build a swamp along the century XX, finally the valley in which was found ( in which flow together the Esla rivers, downward and Retuerto ) was buried for the waters in 1987. The project of construction of the swamp made room for numerous popular mobilizations.
