In the XI century the Oliba abad founded a small monastery at the side of the hermitage of Santa María, that slowly went consolidating to him and it is converted in abbey at the beginning of the XV. centuryBetween the years 1493 and 1835, time of go deep into reforms, of growth and splendor, Montserrat was part of the Valladolid congregation. The Napoleonic war () and the disentailment of 1835 brought the destruction and the abandon, but soon (1844)  started the restoration, only paralyzed for the civil war hispanizes (), that converted Montserrat in the monastery-sanctuary that it is today.
