The church was consecrated to San Salvador.Alfonso II the chaste, king of Asturias ( of the 791 to the 842 ), child of the previous, when moving the capital of the kingdom to Oviedo, it gave the orders construct all a civic whole in the same terrains, by making good use of some spaces of the ancient San Salvador church. In the done excavations in the year 1940 come to light some remains that to attest, together with the writing documents, of the existence of thoses buildings.
